The school year may be over, but the learning continues. Mrs. Emily Cummings, Mrs. Allison Grandfield, and Mrs. Joan Gordon had the privilege of attending the “Leading Literacy Change Academy for District Leaders,” sponsored by the Iowa Reading Research Center in Iowa City on June 20th. Shown here with Nina Lorimor-Easley, IRRC Associate Director for Education and Outreach, these elementary staff members spent the day acquiring information about evidence-based systemic processes that can lead to better outcomes for East Union’s young readers. Information will be shared with all teachers during upcoming professional development. Throughout the day, much of the content affirmed that East Union already has systems in place that support its “High Performing” status (along with outstanding teachers!), but there are always ways to refine the services we provide. We appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow, right along with our Little Eagles!

“There’s a last time for everything.” And so it goes as another school year draws to a close. East Union staff members and students celebrated the last day of school with the beloved tradition of waving (and screaming) good-bye to one another on May 24th, and today staff members enjoyed the end-of-the-year luncheon during which we acknowledged 5-year incremental milestones for veteran employees, and bid friends who are leaving the district farewell and many thanks for their service to our school. Another big “Thank You” goes to Mr. Bobby Walters and Mr. Greg Bailey, representing the Union County Cattlemen, for grilling burgers for our meal. As we look forward to the summer and prepare for a new school year, we know that “every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” The wonderful world of education allows us to celebrate those new beginnings each day as we continue to “fly like an eagle” here at East Union in the days ahead.
