East Union Community Schools

May 11th, we lost a staff member and recent EU graduate in a car accident. Amber Lacina graduated from East Union High School in 2021 and had been working with us as an associate in the elementary school this year. Services for Amber are on May 22nd. The East Union ASPIRE "More" Thrift Store will be closed on Thurday, May 22, so that staff can attend the funeral. Please keep Amber's family and friends in your prayers.

Yesterday, May 19th, we hosted our annual End of the Year Luncheon, when we honor our retiring staff members. This year, we bid farewell to Mr. Mike Cooley, Mrs. Barb Tomas, Mr. Steve Kinyon, Mrs. Kit Mostek, Mrs. Cindy Norman, and Ms. Dawn Arnold. We are so grateful for these individuals and their years of service to our school. And, a big “THANK YOU” to Greg Bailey and Isaac Detweiler from the Union County Cattlemen for grilling burgers for our main course.

Reminder, East Union will not have school on Thursday this week.

Due to our lower numbers for High School Softball, all home softball games this season will be Varsity first with a 6 pm start time. We'll then play as much JV as possible following the Varsity game.

🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ State Track Bound! 🏅 Big congratulations to our standout athletes from Boys and Girls Track! 👏 Junior, Morgan Cooley placed 1st in Shot Put with a throw of 54-01.50, earning an automatic ticket to State! He also secured 2nd in Discus with a strong throw of 149-00 and will be awaiting an at-large bid! 👏 Junior, Tristin Lear took 1st in the 100m Hurdles, setting a new personal record of 16.46 and earning her automatic trip to State as well! East Union Community, Last weekend we lost a staff member and recent EU graduate in a car accident.  Amber Lacina graduated from East Union High School in 2021 and had been working with us as an associate in the elementary school this year.  Services for Amber are on the morning of May 22nd and due to the large number of staff wanting to attend, we will not be having classes on the 22nd.  We will utilize some of the extra hours built into the calendar and won’t be making this day up. Elementary students who utilize the ECC on typical Mondays will have the opportunity for childcare through the ECC.  Look for a Brightwheel notification. Evening activities will continue as planned. Mrs. Craig and her Spanish 4 class went to Central Iowa Shelter and Services to serve. This is a tradition Mrs. Craig has created that allows students the opportunity to experience hands on learning and service as they end wrap up their final Spanish class at East Union.
